Example 1

Applying Heron's Formula

Find the area of a triangle with sides 5 cm, 12 cm, and 13 cm.

Calculation Steps:

  1. 1Compute semi-perimeter: s = (5 + 12 + 13)/2 = 30/2 = 15 cm.
  2. 2Apply Heron's: A = √[15 * (15-5) * (15-12) * (15-13)].
  3. 3Substitute: A = √[15 * 10 * 3 * 2] = √[900] = 30 sq cm.
Solution30 sq cm
