Syllabus Guidelines & Introduction

An informal letter is a personal letter written to relatives, family, or friends. It uses a casual, conversational tone, allowing the use of contractions and friendly vocabulary.

Formatting Layout Blocks

Sender Address & Date

Top left contact details and date. No receiver address is required.

Salutation

'Dear [First Name]', 'My dear mother', or 'Dearest [Friend Name]'.

Body (3 Paragraphs)

1. Warm Opening (asking about health/well-being); 2. Main content (news, advice, invitation); 3. Warm Closing (best regards, conveying love).

Subscription & Name

'Yours affectionately', 'Yours lovingly', or 'Warm regards', followed by first name.

Essential Rules to Follow

  • Tone: Casual, conversational, and affectionate. You can use contractions (I'm, don't) and expressive punctuation (exclamation marks!).
  • No Subject Line: Never include a subject line in an informal letter.
  • Subscription: Do not add an apostrophe in 'Yours' (never write Your's).
