Story writing is the art of creating a narrative with characters, a setting, a plot, a conflict, and a resolution. It allows for creative freedom, but requires structured pacing to keep the reader engaged.
Formatting Layout Blocks
Setting & Characters
Introduces where and when the story takes place, along with the main characters.
Inciting Incident / Hook
An event that disrupts the status quo and starts the story's main action.
Rising Action & Climax
The tension builds up as characters face obstacles, leading to the turning point (climax).
Falling Action & Resolution
The conflict is resolved, and the story wraps up with a moral or lesson.
Essential Rules to Follow
- •Show, Don't Tell: Instead of writing 'He was scared', write 'His hands trembled and sweat beaded on his forehead.'
- •Dialogue: Use dialogue to reveal character traits and advance the plot. Use double quotation marks.
- •Clear Theme: Ensure your story has an underlying message, moral, or lesson.
