Setting & Characters

Introduces where and when the story takes place, along with the main characters.

Inciting Incident / Hook

An event that disrupts the status quo and starts the story's main action.

Rising Action & Climax

The tension builds up as characters face obstacles, leading to the turning point (climax).

Falling Action & Resolution

The conflict is resolved, and the story wraps up with a moral or lesson.

Essential Rules to Follow

  • Show, Don't Tell: Instead of writing 'He was scared', write 'His hands trembled and sweat beaded on his forehead.'
  • Dialogue: Use dialogue to reveal character traits and advance the plot. Use double quotation marks.
  • Clear Theme: Ensure your story has an underlying message, moral, or lesson.
